Vespid Stingwings
The winged allies of the T'au Empire - fast, accurate, and deadly.
The Vespid Stingwings are an allied race of the T'au Empire, native to the toxic layers of the gas giant's atmosphere, where they live on floating rocky islands and crystalline colonies. The Vespids are insectoid, extremely fast, and fully adapted to aerial warfare. Their society is based on a strong hierarchy and pheromone communication, which is why they communicate primarily through their telepathic commanders. This is accomplished by a Strain Leader who uses a communication device equipped with T'au technology.
The Vespids are one of the few non-T'au species that have been able to seamlessly integrate into the T'au Empire's war machine. Their speed and ion-powered weapons make them excellent strike forces against enemy light infantry.
From a gaming perspective:
- Playstyle: A fast and punchy flying unit, perfect for flanking attacks and clearing targets.
- Strengths: Highly mobile, capable of striking hard-to-reach targets, good weapons against armored units.
- Challenges: Weak armor, requires precise timing and protection from support units.
- Suitable for the player: Anyone who wants to add mobility, surprises, and a visually distinctive unit to their T’au army.
Features on the table:
- Ion Blasters - Weapons based on T’au technology that fire energy blasts and are capable of penetrating armor.
- Fly (flight ability) - allows you to overcome obstacles and quickly reach a key position.
- Strain Leader gives the unit better hits and a connection to T'au commanders.
- A very useful unit for capturing targets and responding quickly.
Painting and collecting:
Vespid Stingwings offer the painter an interesting contrast to T’au technology. Their chitinous skin, shimmering wings, and metallic hardware allow for creative color combinations - such as dark, shiny hues or even insect-like color variations. With bright wing effects and an energy glow, you can create a truly impressive ensemble.
