Red Corsairs
Maelstrom Pirates - Rebels, Raiders, and the Galaxy's Largest Chaos Fleet
The Red Corsairs are one of the most dangerous and fastest growing Chaos Space Marine forces of the 41st millennium. They are not one of the original Legions, but former Loyalist Space Marines who turned against the Empire.
Their leader, Huron Blackheart (formerly Lufgt Huron), was originally the Chapter Master of the Astral Claws. His rebellion during the Badab War led to destruction, but not his death. Seriously wounded, he fled to the Maelstrom, rebuilt himself cybernetically, and rose again… this time as the Pirate King of Chaos.
What makes the Red Corsairs different?
Unlike many Chaos legions, the Red Corsairs:
- are not entirely in the service of one chaos god
- operate in practice as a pirate empire
- constantly recruiting defectors from other Space Marine chapters
Their power is not based on ideology but on conquest, plunder and survival.
From a gaming perspective:
- Playstyle: Aggressive, mobile Chaos Space Marine army
- Strengths: Fast units, lots of attacks, flexible formations
- Challenges: Not as specialized as single god armies
- Suitable for the player: Anyone who wants a “Chaos United” army without strict god restrictions
Red Corsairs is an excellent choice if you want to:
- combine different Chaos units
- to play a mobile, attacking roster
- build your own pirate warband without the restrictions of legion rules
Lore & feeling
Red Corsairs are the closest thing to “chaos pirates” in Warhammer 40k:
- massive fleet
- continuous looting and kidnappings
- slave fleets and smuggling
- Maelstrom control
They are not religious fanatics like the Word Bearers.
They are not pure killing machines like the World Eaters.
They are opportunists. Survivors. Predators.
And Huron Blackheart is one of the most dangerous Chaos leaders in the entire galaxy. Not because of the blessing of a god, but because of cold calculation.
