The Horus Heresy
A civil war for the fate of the galaxy - The Empire's darkest hour
The Horus Heresy is set 10,000 years before the present day of Warhammer 40,000, when the Imperium of Man was still young and the galaxy more united than ever, until Primarch Horus Lupercal, the Emperor's favorite son and warlord of the Empire, betrayed his father and plunged humanity into a bloody civil war.
During the Fraternal War, the Space Marine legions were divided into two camps: the Loyalists, who remained with the Emperor, and the Traitors, who sided with Chaos. The conflict was not just between armies, but a battle between brothers, teachers, and students, where every victory and defeat made history.
The game focuses on huge legion battles and technologically advanced units of the era, which are often more powerful than their modern counterparts in 40k.
From a gaming perspective:
- Gameplay Style: Big, spectacular legion battles combining infantry, heavy vehicles, and huge super-heavy weapons.
- Strengths: Rich story context, unit-specific special rules for each legion, massive armor and artillery forces.
- Challenges: Often requires more goals and table space than traditional 40k; game mechanics are tactically deep and detailed.
- Suitable for the player: Anyone who loves big, story-driven battles and wants to play historically significant conflicts in the Warhammer universe.
Features on the table:
- Each of the 18 Space Marine legions has its own rules, units, and Primarch.
- Featuring 30k era vehicles such as the Spartan Assault Tank, Sicaran Battle Tank and Contemptor Dreadnought.
- Massive characters like the Primarchs, who stand alone as the centers of the battlefield.
- Wide scalability - can play both large armies and smaller narrative encounters.
Painting and collecting:
The Horus Heresy offers a huge range of visual themes: each legion has its own color, icon, and style, and the armor of the era differs significantly from the 40k forms. Paint projects can be historically accurate (based on the Heresy chronology) or freely adapted.
